In hundshof, the cow is doing well

In hundshof, the cow is doing well

Anyone who talks to georg and barbara bessler from hundshof in the municipality of frensdorf about the work on their dairy farm soon realizes how much heart and soul they put into the farm and the well-being of their animals. When lena, now 50, and his wife took over his parents' farm in 1993, the couple had to decide what kind of farming they wanted to focus on. "We decided right at the beginning to work with the cows. There lay our strong. Besides, the necessary flat and the corresponding land were available", georg bessler looks back on the beginnings 25 years ago. As the number of cows increased rapidly from 22 in the beginning, the family farm decided to build a new dairy barn in 1996. This provided space for a total of 80 cows and, with its open barn front and the resulting freedom of movement, ensured that the animals felt completely at ease. But the stable should not be the only investment in the farm.

"No mass animal husbandry"

Werner nutzel, district executive officer of the bavarian farmers' association, visited the family farm as part of the association's stall discussion. He was pleased with the way the cows are kept and stated: "the animals have never been kept as well as they are today." In this way, he was able to vehemently counter the criticism of many members of the public, who often compare the situation on the farm with factory farming. "There is no such thing in the bamberg district or in bavaria in general. But it must also be said that the romantic, small farm of the past with its 20 cows could no longer support a family nowadays. Similar to crafts and industry, a farm needs a minimum size in order to exist economically."

Friends of nature hiked

The naturfreunde kulmbach started the new year with a winter hike followed by a fortified drink. 45 participants met for this purpose at the katzbachtal settlers’ home – more than ever before. Due to weather conditions, organizer manfred motschenbacher led the members through the streets and many alleyways of the settlement. To the surprise of many, some ways were unknown until now.

The winter tour led from the katzbach valley, past the kreuzkirche church and the mangersreuth school, crisscrossing the settlement with its now mostly rebuilt settlement houses. One or the other memory about incidents and events was told, for the younger ones this was mostly new territory. Back we went over the eastern part of mangersreuth past the former youth hostel, which was once owned by the nature lovers. This information was also completely new for many participants.

Message for small and coarse

Message for small and coarse

"Tobias elsaber is not just an author, but a real multi-talent", explains christiane weib, head of the bamberg public library, to the young listeners. Around 25 elementary school students came to the parish hall of maria hilf on tuesday afternoon to hear tobias elsaber read from his book "linus lindbergh und die invasion der roboter" (linus lindbergh and the robot invasion) to be read aloud. The 45-year-old author has already been a boy band member, a freelance journalist for radio and even a software programmer, among other things.

Currently elsaber is on the road as an author, singer and songwriter. He writes novels for children and teenagers, even though he grew up without any children’s books and had to sit out the fourth grade because he had failed a german class. But in the meantime he finds writing and above all imagination "totally cool, because it offers more possibilities than reality. "Ever since i was a child, it has been my dream to live in the middle of stuttgart airport," the children sing loudly, he notes. For this reason, the main character of his book was also placed in the middle of an airport.

Rosy prospects for the indoor swimming pool trumpeted

"The joint efforts have led to an excellent result", the mayor stressed and read a letter from government president paul beinhofer. The city is informed that it will receive a top demand for the general renovation of the plant. "We have done our best", says mayor helmut blank about the negotiations with the free state and the government of lower franconia.

But the bad news followed at the same time. The municipal audit association of bavaria and the district office of bad kissingen had been extremely critical of the financing concept of the burgerbad association. The latter wants to operate the baths in the future. The conclusion in the city council meeting: if the club does not have 1300 paying members by october, nothing will come of the indoor swimming pool renovation. Without the required number of members, "I won't get involved", according to the mayor. Helmut blank spoke at the meeting of currently 330 paying members out of a total membership of 660. The city councillors cannot imagine how the association intends to increase the number of members in the next few weeks.
